Solo Boost on a JCM800 2203
Solo Boost & 2 channel mod on a Vintage Modern
I offer many different mods for Marshall amps from simple gain boosts to extra gain stages and effects loops. Tubes swaps (EL34, 6550, 6L6, KT66, KT88), re-voicing, restoring, master volumes, effects loops, preamp outs, half power mods, or basic maintenance. You name it, I do it. I work on Plexi, JMP, JCM800, JCM900, JCM2000, DSL, TSL, Vintage Modern, JVM, SLX, Silver Jubilee, Major, and 30th Anniversary models of Marshall tube amps but the JCM800 and earlier are my favorites. Email me with what your looking for and we can discuss all the options available.
Plexi, JMP, JCM800 mods
Standard mods My standard mods are my bottom line price to get inside that particular model amp and make circuit changes. While I do have a mod in mind based on customer feedback on that model, my mods are all adjusted to fit your needs and change the amp in the ways you need it changed.
Ultimate Plexi mod Tweaks the amp circuit to be truer to the vintage plexi tones.
Ultimate 80's mod Added gain and voicing changes aimed at the 80's type rock tones. Cleans up very well with guitar volume. This mod will get into modern rock gain levels too. No added gain stage.
FJ mod - (F'n Jose) Jose/CCV type mod My version of the Jose/CCV/Atomica type tones mod.
FB mod - (F'n Brutal) Aldrich type mod My version of the Aldrich mod type tones mod. Formerly the Nick Mod.
FML mod - (F'n Missing Link) Elan/Metalhead type mod My version of a very popular Elan/Metalhead mod type tones mod. Includes loop and noise gate.
80's Mod + Similar to the Ultimate 80's mod, but with an added gain stage. Cleans up well with guitar volume. No extra tube.
SS Mod Added tube gain stage for added gain. Metal, 80's rock, and modern rock type voicing. Cleans up well with guitar volume. This mod can cover a lot of ground tone wise.
SSX Mod Added tube gain stage for brutal metal tones. Modern metal and modern rock type voicing for deep, thick, thundering tones. Extreme gain version of the SS Mod
JFD Mod - (Jerry's F'n Destruction) My take on the SIR #39 amp mods as used by Slash and George Lynch. Added tube gain stage.
JFD + Mod My take on the SIR #39 amp mods as used by Slash and George Lynch. Added gain stage and effects loop with channel switching for added clean channel.
Output transformer upgrade The newer Marshall reissues tend to have a harsh, edgy high end giving the amps a very bright tone. These amps benefit greatly by upgrading the output transformer. The new OT gives the amp a warmer, more organic vintage tone with a creamy high end that sings. The older Marshall amps don't benefit as much from a new transformer.
DSL/TSL mods
Standard mods My standard mods are my bottom line price to get inside that particular model amp and make circuit changes. While I do have a mod in mind based on customer feedback on that model, my mods are all adjusted to fit your needs and change the amp in the ways you need it changed.
My standard DSL/TSL mods tighten the amp up and increase the gain slightly, improve the clean channel, and give the amp a meatier tone with strong crunchy mids that cut thru. As part of the mod I modify the speaker output design flaw which causes output transformer failure. My mods don't disable and break your deep switch like the competitions mods do. My mods don't neuter the gain like theirs either.
Gain levels can be increased to metal type tones or lowered for more classic tones. Voicing can be thickened up for a more modern rock tone.
Output transformer upgrade The newer Marshall amps tend to have a harsh, edgy high end giving the amps a very bright tone. These amps benefit greatly by upgrading the output transformer. The new OT gives the amp a warmer, more organic vintage tone with a creamy high end that sings. The DSL/TSL amps don't suffer as much as the other Marshall reissues, but a new OT can improve the tone.
Added choke Installing a choke in an amp that doesn't have one can improve the bottom end punch, sustain, feel, and noise levels. The DSL/TSL amps don't come with a choke from the factory.
Vintage Modern mods
Standard mods My standard mods are my bottom line price to get inside that particular model amp and make circuit changes. While I do have a mod in mind based on customer feedback on that model, my mods are all adjusted to fit your needs and change the amp in the ways you need it changed.
My standard Vintage Modern mod gives the amp a meatier tone with strong crunchy mids that cut thru. I offer several options for gain levels and voicing.
Two channel mod The Vintage Modern is essentially a Plexi circuit with a PPIMV (post phase inverter master volume). On the VM instead of 4 input jacks Marshall gives you one so you don't have to jump them like everyone did with the Plexi. The Detail channel is the bright channel and the Body channel is your normal channel and you mix them to get your overall tone. I find the Detail too bright and the Body too dark and I can't find a mix I like. Many people have asked me about making the volume levels between the high/low range dynamics closer so they were more usable as 2 channels. My two channel mod offers this. I modify each channel so they bost have a good mix of Plexi tones. The Body channel works the same and becomes the low range channel. The Detail becomes the high range channel and I add a master volume to this channel. The PPIMV still functions like it always did. This gives you a low gain Plexi tone and a higher gain Plexi/JCM800 tone with volumes that can be matched. This mod involves drilling a new hole in the front of the amp (pics above).
X-treme metal mod This mod combines the two channel mod with adding an extra gain stage for over the top gain levels on the high range channel.
Solo Boost As you probably already know running a boost in the loop doesn't work on this amp. I can add a foot switchable solo boost to the VM. This mod involves drilling a new hole in the front of the amp and one on the back for the foot switch.
Added gain stage Adds an extra tube gain stage to increase the overall gain of the amp.
Added choke Installing a choke in an amp that doesn't have one can improve the bottom end punch, sustain, feel, and noise levels. The Vintage Modern amp doesn't come with a choke from the factory.
Silver Jubilee mods
Standard mod My standard Jubilee mod is modding the early circuit to the latest revision of the circuit. The early circuit was a bit brighter and had a few differences in the effects loop. I also offer an added choke to the 2554 combo. I can do other mods upon request, but I generally don't do anything too crazy with the Jubilee because they were a limited edition amp.
Added gain mod Added gain without drastic changes to the amp. Completely reversible to retain the amps value.
Oz mod Added tube gain stage for even higher gain. Prefer to only do this mod on amps that are already beat up and not in collectable condition.
Class 5 mods
80's tone mod I offer an 80's type tone mod for the Class 5 to give it a little more gain, stronger midrange, and tighter bottom end. I also offer a master volume option for the Class 5 mod.
Haze mods
80's tone mod I offer an 80's type tone mod for the Haze to give it a little more gain, stronger midrange, and tighter bottom end.
Modern Rock/Metal I offer a Modern Rock/Metal for Haze to give it even more gain a a modern rock/metal type tone and tight bottom. Closed back cab suggested for the tightest tone.
Marshall Mod Prices
