I have a three channel dual rec with standard mesa tubes in it (6L6). I like my tone right now, which is admittedly pretty dependent on a TS in front, Boss NS 2, and a Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop, but I know that it could use some improvement.
I play death metal, generally with a fairly scooped - modern sound. I'd really like to keep the gain where it is, but the tone possibly darkened and I'd really like to kill as much of the flubby bass overkill when the volume tops 50%. Any additional clarity is only going to be a benefit.
I'm definitely interested in redoing the tubes, so I'm open to suggestions there, but also wondering how much can be cleared up by a tube change and how much just needs to be modded (and even beyond the standard FJA Rec mod) and opinions all around.
And I know this is a stupid question, but what is the impact of the bias mod?

And I know some folks are 2 ch rec die hards, I'm not, so I'm just looking for advice and opinions on the head that I currently have.
